Home > DJs in Bali > DJ LBS

Being born and bred in Washington D.C., the soulful sounds of “Chocolate City” have permeated LBS’ take on music…hometown heroes such as Marvin Gaye, Duke Ellington, and Deep Dish have all played their part in shaping his style of play today. Beginning in 1994, the second “Golden Era” of hip-hop was in full swing and the already vibrant electronic music scene collided to give inspiration in the form of playing music for people who want to dance. Starting out with local college and house parties, his first foray was on University of Maryland’s WMUC 88.1FM radio show “Therapy Sessions”. Given freedom to explore all avenues of music, the format for the show paved the way to play house and hip-hop, regardless of club acceptance and ratings, and became a popular time slot during his stay. Also at this time, LBS became a local fixture on the club scene not only as a DJ but a dancer as well. The chance to hear Deep Dish in their early days at State Of The Union and house legends 95 North at the even more famous Club Red instilled a deep appreciation for quality dance music.

From this point on, the eastern seaboard of the United States became his playground, traveling and DJing from Boston to New York to Philadelphia to Baltimore and back to home in D.C. was a constant weekly activity that most aspiring DJs can only dream of. Around 1998, a few of his fellow cohorts formed District Soul, a collective of DJs and like-minded individuals who went on to play house, hip-hop, drum & bass, and dancehall at most, if not all, of D.C.’s top clubs. LBS and his District Soul partners went on to open for the likes of Mark Farina, DJ Sneak, Kaskade, DJ Gregory, and other international superstars with their various residencies at Club Five (M3 Productions), Nation, Andalu, and Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL Records), all clubs with outstanding repertoires in their own right. Their gaining reputation also landed them guest gigs in Baltimore (Mosaic, Good Love Bar), Miami (Blue), New York (Red Lounge), and various one off parties around the States.

In the year 2006, LBS decided to pack his bags and take his knowledge abroad. Searching for a new start and new inspiration, he landed in Bali, Indonesia to explore what the Asia Pacific region had in store. Currently DJing and holding residencies in some of Bali’s top clubs, LBS is forever hunting for the “perfect beat”…
