Steve Gamboa (a.k.a. Stevie G) has been involved with dee jaying, producing, and performing live music for 2 decades. He began as a DJ in 1988, spinning hip-hop, rare groove, and funk at various parties in his hometown of Washington, DC. Soon after, he became the bass player for the seminal underground punk group, The Nation of Ulysses, and afterwards, the drummer for The MaKe uP, which released several full length LPs and went on to tour the US, Europe, Australia, Japan, and Brazil.
In 1995, Stevie became co-founder and resident at the “Cold Rice” weekly party at the Kaffa House in DC. He spun there once a week playing an eclectic mix of rare groove, funk, house, and drum and bass. He was also resident at this same venue on Fridays under the name, Killa F.M. (Killa From Manila), where he was the opening dub/roots and culture DJ for The Upsetter International dancehall sound system.
